Alef Aeronautics is one step closer to making flying cars a reality. The company released a video showing its electric vehicle taking off vertically and flying over a car on a road in California.
Jim Dukhovny, CEO of Alef, stated that the company is demonstrating the feasibility of a new mode of transportation. Since the presentation of the first prototype in 2017, Alef received an initial investment of $3 million from Draper Associates.
In 2022, Alef unveiled the Model A, a fully electric flying car with a range of 354 kilometers and a flight capability of up to 177 kilometers. The vehicle already received the “Special Airworthiness Certification” from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in less than a year.
The Model A’s design allows it to drive on streets, take off vertically, and fly above traffic, offering a solution to urban congestion.
Production of the Model A is expected to start in 2025, with 3,300 preorders already placed, and prices starting at $300,000. Additionally, it’s possible to secure a place in the priority line for $1,500. Alef also plans to launch its second flying car, the Model Z, by 2035, with prices expected to start at $35,000.
