In a video shared by the Russian Ministry of Defense’s state TV network, children can be seen working on the production line of black suicide drones, Geran-2, at the factory in Yelabuga.
Teenagers as young as 15 are invited to work at the factory right after finishing the ninth grade of school. According to the video, most of them come from a nearby technical school.
The footage also shows dozens of teenagers assembling drone parts and working behind computers in the factory’s lobby. “Wherever you look, you see young people working,” says the video’s narrator.
European defense officials believe that with increased production, Russia plans to use thousands of cheap suicide drones each night in attacks on Ukraine. The use of black paint on the Russian variant of the Shahed drone also suggests a trend toward nighttime attacks.
