
The Russian Navy’s newest strategic nuclear submarine, the Knyaz Pozharsky, has been officially commissioned into active service with the Northern Fleet and has already arrived at its permanent base in the city of Gadzhiyevo, located in the Murmansk region.

The information was confirmed by the Northern Fleet’s press service on Saturday (2), emphasizing that the submarine is now part of a group of strategic submarines based in the Arctic.
According to Vice Admiral Anatoly Kovalenko, commander of the Northern Fleet’s submarine forces, the Knyaz Pozharsky will be used for strategic nuclear deterrence missions. The vessel’s commander, Second Rank Captain Andrei Shleikher, stated that all tasks related to the transition between bases were successfully completed, the crew is ready for operations, and the ship’s systems are in perfect condition.
The submarine’s arrival was marked by a ceremony at the Gadzhiyevo base, attended by officers from the Northern Fleet’s Submarine Forces, representatives from the closed municipality of Aleksandrovsk, and family members of the crew.
The Knyaz Pozharsky submarine belongs to the Borei-A class and represents the latest generation of Russian strategic ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). It is equipped with modern electronic systems and can launch the advanced RSM-56 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The naval flag-raising ceremony on the submarine was held on July 24, in Severodvinsk, with the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the occasion, the Russian leader highlighted the offensive and technological capabilities of the new submarine cruiser, reaffirming its strategic role in national defense.
