This new model is distinguished by a completely unmanned turret, based on a modified chassis of the Leopard 2 tank, marking a significant advancement in armored technology.

The prototype, named Concept Uncrewed Turret (CUT), incorporates the latest innovation in weapon systems with its main 130 mm Future Gun System, which has a barrel length of 51 calibers and is fed by an automatic loader capable of holding 25 rounds located at the rear of the turret. Additionally, the tank is equipped with a dual 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.

The KF51-U turret also features a remotely controlled combat module for the commander, called Main Sensor Slaved Armament (MSSA), which includes a Rheinmetall RMG762 machine gun with three barrels that rotate in case of overheating, providing high effectiveness against small drones.

Besides its offensive capabilities, the tank offers advanced protection with systems like the Active Protection System (APS) and countermeasure options such as MUSS and ROSY, adaptable according to mission needs. The integrated fire control system, command and control (C4I) equipment, and other sensors, including a meteorological sensor, complement the technological sophistication of the KF51-U.

Both the commander and the crew have access to modern optical equipment for day and night vision with integrated laser rangefinders, ensuring exceptional accuracy under various operational conditions.

Rheinmetall states that the tank’s reconnaissance functionality can be further enhanced with the use of small onboard drones, emphasizing the company’s focus on adapting and integrating emerging technologies to meet the future demands of the battlefield.
