An unusual video recorded at the Ceasa in Curitiba, Brazil, went viral on social media by showing a Ford Ka carrying about 1.5 tons of potatoes, more than three times the recommended limit for the model.

The 2008 car was loaded with 58 sacks of potatoes, both inside and on the roof. According to witnesses, the buyer himself requested to load the car with the sacks of potatoes, sparking curiosity and calls from suppliers in other regions of Brazil.

Despite attempting to travel to another city, Ceasa inspectors prevented the vehicle from leaving. For safety reasons, the driver was instructed to leave half of the load at the site and continue the trip only with the reduced weight. Ceasa emphasized that the measure was taken preventively to ensure everyone’s safety at the location.

Although the case generated memes and jokes, carrying a load beyond the allowed limit is a serious offense under the Brazilian Traffic Code. Excess weight compromises the car’s drivability and structure, in addition to being dangerous and illegal. On the roof, the load must also comply with specific size and securing limits. Since the Ford Ka is a passenger car, it was not designed to handle this kind of use, which makes the situation even riskier.
