A video showing a small car equipped with an automatic retractable awning is gaining millions of views on social media.
In the clip, posted on X (Twitter), the owner of one of these vehicles is seen pressing a button to make the awning retract automatically and fit into a compartment on the roof.
“Mainiu’s automatic car awnings are becoming popular in China to prevent cars from getting too hot when parked outdoors during the summer,” says the caption.
While getting into a hot car is an awful feeling, direct sunlight can also cause other damage to vehicles, including the fuel systems, air conditioning, and batteries.
If you’re interested in protecting your car, you can find similar awnings (not automatic, however) online. Buyers report that using them improved the internal temperature of their vehicles when parked in the sun, but they can cause damage to car roofs.
