Uralvagonzavod strengthens troops with modernized vehicles, now equipped with anti-drone protection and electronic warfare systems

On the eve of Russia’s Ground Forces Day, the Uralvagonzavod group, part of the Rostec State Corporation, announced the delivery of another batch of BMPT “Terminator” (tank support combat vehicles) to Russian troops.

According to the company, demand for this type of armored vehicle has increased significantly following its use in the Special Military Operation, where it demonstrated effectiveness both in direct tank support missions and in independent operations as a combat unit.

Uralvagonzavod General Director Alexander Potapov stated:

“It has always been believed that the main strike force of the Ground Forces was the tank. Now we can say that the BMPTs have also been added to them.”

BMPT 2025 model: improvements and new protections

UVZ engineers have been improving the BMPT based on recent combat experience. The 2025 model received reinforced dynamic protection, additional side armor, as well as anti-drone grids and electronic warfare systems similar to those equipping the T-90M Proryv and T-72B3M tanks.

Another highlight is the modern digital fire control system, capable of engaging targets while moving or stationary, day or night, against up to three targets simultaneously—even if they are at different ranges and approach angles.

The role of the BMPT on the battlefield

Also known as the “Terminator,” the BMPT was designed to accompany main battle tanks, protecting them against threats such as infantry, drones, and anti-tank missiles. In practice, however, it has proven versatile enough to operate autonomously in urban combat and asymmetric warfare scenarios.
