At the end of November, another UTS-800 training aircraft was integrated into the flight-test campaign after successfully completing its first flight at the airfield of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (JSC “UZGA”), part of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Russian Union of Machine Builders.

According to UZGA, the maiden flight focused on evaluating the aircraft’s stability and maneuverability characteristics, especially during takeoff and landing — essential phases for validating performance under critical basic-training conditions.

The JSC “UZGA” test pilot, Alexey Yazynin, highlighted that all planned parameters were confirmed:

“The flight was carried out according to the assigned mission, and the objective was achieved — all stability and maneuverability characteristics of the aircraft were confirmed. The UTS-800 behaved predictably, with no remarks regarding its operation. Among its advantages are the low cost per flight hour, ideal speeds for takeoff and landing phases, as well as stable behavior at angles of attack close to critical, which is essential for cadet training. The aircraft’s construction is simple and tolerant of small piloting errors.”

According to the manufacturer, the flight tests are strictly following the approved schedule and meeting the requirements of the Russian state customer. The program includes a series of evaluations in different flight regimes, maneuvers and operating conditions, necessary to assess aerodynamic factors, stability and trainer efficiency.

UTS-800: the new primary trainer for Russian aviation

Among its main technical highlights, the aircraft features:

  • high maneuverability with low operating cost;
  • a new-generation turboprop engine;
  • ejection seats;
  • standard oxygen system;
  • air conditioning and de-icing system;
  • modern avionics tailored for training environments.

The aircraft was developed to offer safety, predictability, and tolerance to typical errors made by beginner pilots — characteristics considered essential for academies and training centers.
