The driver of a Ram 3500 recorded the moment he noticed a very strange shade in the gasoline coming out of the pump at a gas station in the U.S.

Lane Beatty, from Ohio (U.S.), shared a video on TikTok explaining that he had stopped at a gas station to fill up his Ram 3500 pickup truck.

However, when he started fueling his vehicle, he noticed that the gasoline coming from the pump was pink. “The lion doesn’t care about the color of the fuel,” he joked in the overlay text on the clip.

According to the site OFTRB, which specializes in fuels, there are several reasons why drivers might encounter a pink liquid when refueling at a gas station.

While gasoline is normally associated with a “clear or slightly yellow liquid,” OFTRB explained that there are cases where gasoline is dyed pink with a chemical called Red Solvent 26 or other synthetic dyes to differentiate it from other types of fuel.

The dyes are “water-soluble and highly concentrated” and, when added to gasoline, “do not affect the chemical properties or performance of the fuel,” according to OFTRB.

While they can help identify different types of fuel, some jurisdictions require that pink gasoline be used specifically for “off-road or non-highway use.”

As such, this dyed fuel is not taxed in the U.S., according to Truckers Report. It is intended for equipment and farm machinery, not for drivers using their vehicles for long trips on American highways.

With that in mind, one commenter wrote: “The lion doesn’t care about tax evasion.” Several people in the comments section seemed to agree that Beatty was deliberately filling his tank with pink gasoline to avoid paying taxes.

But, as can be seen in his other videos, Beatty appears to own a farm or, at least, live in a rural area. In previous posts, he was seen driving tractors across large open fields and seems to park his vehicle on a very spacious property.
