A man caught the attention of internet users after being filmed using an unusual solution to fix a rust problem on a white van.
The clip, posted by the Facebook page Just Rolled In, shows a man using spray foam to fill rust holes on the sides of his van. “He used to say he was a mobile mechanic,” the post caption reads.
The man, clearly unaware he was being recorded, can be seen filling the rusted spots along the side panel of his van with foam. The video has already accumulated over 650,000 views and many comments from viewers amused by the scene.
“I mean, he’s a mobile mechanic, not a repair shop,” reflected one Facebook user. “Nothing wrong if it’s not structural,” said another. “This fix will last longer than a Cybertruck,” joked a third user.
It’s worth noting that spray foam, whether used on homes or vehicles, is only a quick, temporary solution to a bigger problem. While the mechanic’s method may serve as a “cosmetic fix,” it certainly won’t solve the issue or last long.
Rust doesn’t disappear just because it’s covered. In fact, it will continue to grow until properly treated, a process that involves cutting out the affected area, treating the metal, welding a new piece, and then applying filler and paint.
