The successful test reinforces Dubai’s ambition to lead in urban air transport solutions. The city has already begun construction of Joby’s first commercial vertiport at the Dubai International Airport, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Designed to carry up to four passengers, Joby’s air taxi reaches speeds of up to 320 km/h and promises to transform the way residents and tourists move around the city. One of the planned routes — between the airport and the luxurious artificial island Palm Jumeirah — is expected to take just 12 minutes, compared to the current 45 minutes by road.

In addition to speed, the service promises to be quiet. During the demonstration flight, conducted at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, the noise level was described as “quieter than a normal conversation”, according to the company.
