According to the ASTRA channel on Telegram, based on reports from local residents, the attack occurred simultaneously with the release of the first images of another attack on a military facility in the village of Oktyabrsky. In addition to the fire at the airfield, two other fire outbreaks were identified in an aviation weapons depot, where the surrounding vegetation is ablaze.

Residents reported that after the attack, explosions were heard at the airfield, and residents of the nearby military camp were evacuated as a precaution.

On Monday morning, the governor of the Volgograd region, Andriy Bocharov, confirmed the attack: “During the night, the air defense forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation repelled a UAV attack in the Volgograd region, near Marinovka. Some of the drones were destroyed. However, the crash of one of the UAVs caused a fire in the Ministry of Defense facilities.”

According to available information, the airfield houses the 11th Mixed Aviation Regiment, formed in 2015 from the 2nd Aviation Squadron. This regiment includes a reconnaissance aviation squadron with Su-24MR aircraft and a bomber squadron with Su-24M aircraft, relocated from the Morozovsk airfield.

Recently, the Marinovka airfield had received new hangars to protect its aircraft, including Su-24 bombers and Su-34 fighter-bombers, from possible drone and missile attacks. In the published images, it is possible to count 12 new hangars designed to house these frontline aircraft.
