Dylan Brewer, 19, was caught on surveillance footage vandalizing a street with LGBTQ+ flag colors.

The man was driving a pickup truck, revving the engine, and making a sharp turn on an avenue in Delray Beach, Florida, on February 4.

The video released by Delray Beach Police shows the moment Brewer leaves tire marks on the avenue.

According to a statement from the Delray Beach Police Department, “the reckless act caused significant damage to the urban landscape, which serves as a symbol of unity and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Police received multiple reports regarding Brewer’s actions, along with several eyewitness accounts providing cellphone videos of the incident, which aided in the investigations.

Dylan Brewer surrendered to police on February 12 and was charged with criminal mischief, property damage over $1,000, and reckless driving. He was released on a $5,250 bond shortly after midnight on Tuesday, according to police.

The avenue painting in Delray Beach has previously been the target of vandalism the day after its unveiling in June 2021.

Rand Hoch, president and founder of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council (PBCHRC), stated that the vandalism should be considered a hate crime. In an interview with The Palm Beach Post, Hoch said, “Hate crime cases are increasing here in Florida against the LGBTQ, Jewish, and Black communities.”
