According to the Chief of the Aviation General Staff and First Deputy Head of the Air Force, Colonel Andrey Rachkov, the new Su-30SM2s provide significantly enhanced capabilities:

  • Target detection range increased nearly threefold;
  • New avionics and navigation systems, including autonomous operation without reliance on satellites;
  • Ability to employ a wider range of weaponry, including guided and unguided missiles, as well as bombs equipped with a universal planning and correction module.

Rachkov also emphasized that both flight and technical crews have already mastered the modernization and that young pilots are being trained for combat readiness missions.

The first batch of Su-30SM2s was received earlier this year, and this new delivery strengthens Belarus’s strategy of modernizing its air defense amid growing tensions in Eastern Europe.
