The Navy of the Russian Federation has officially commissioned the diesel-electric submarine Velikiye Luki, the third unit of Project 677, known by the Lada code.
The vessel was built at the Admiralty Shipyards and took approximately 19 years to be completed.
According to information published by the specialized outlet Mil.Press FLOT, Velikiye Luki is the third Project 677 submarine destined for the Russian fleet. Two other submarines of the same class had previously been rolled out of the construction hall.

The submarine’s keel was laid in November 2006, while its launch took place only in December 2022. After the testing and adjustment phase, the vessel was finally incorporated into the Russian Navy.
In January 2024, the first serial submarine of Project 677, Kronstadt, also officially entered service, reinforcing the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet. The lead submarine of the class, Saint Petersburg, was decommissioned after a prolonged period of operational trials, according to available data.

The Project 677 diesel-electric submarine has a displacement of approximately 1,765 tonnes, a length of 66.8 meters, and a beam of 7.1 meters. Its submerged speed can reach up to 21 knots, with a maximum diving depth of 300 meters and an operational endurance of up to 45 days. The crew consists of 36 personnel.
In terms of armament, Velikiye Luki is equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes, which also allow the launch of Kalibr cruise missiles, expanding its strike and deterrence capabilities.
