US Tests Blood Delivery by Drone During Military Exercise (X @Defence_Turk)
During the multinational military exercise Swift Response 2025 held in Lithuania, the US Army used a TRV-150 drone to deliver blood and medical supplies using a parachute system.
The initiative aimed to test the use of unmanned vehicles to provide medical support in combat areas, increasing the survival chances of wounded soldiers on the battlefield.
This practice was inspired by the experience of Ukraine’s 12th Azov Brigade of the National Guard, which carried out the first blood delivery by drone in a war zone in February 2025. On that occasion, a severely injured soldier received a transfusion directly in a trench after the aerial delivery, which helped stabilize his condition. In addition to blood, the drone carried transfusion kits, medication, and other essential medical supplies.
The success of this approach is also due to changes in Ukrainian legislation and the training of combat medics, who are now qualified to perform transfusions in the field even if they are not doctors.
This innovation marks a significant advancement in military medicine, enabling immediate care before evacuation or hospital arrival.
