The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) officially notified the US Congress of the decision last Friday.
In addition to the vehicles, the package requested by Canada includes up to nine JLTV cargo trailers, as well as items not classified as Major Defense Equipment (MDE). These include communication systems, mobility equipment, lethality and survivability enhancements, spare parts, special tools and test equipment (STTE), technical manuals, maintenance trainers, training programs, full field support, depot-level maintenance, repair services, and logistical and programmatic support.
According to the DSCA, the sale will help strengthen burden-sharing with allies and partners, supporting peace operations and peacekeeping missions worldwide. The agency also emphasized that the transaction “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
The main contractors responsible for the production and supply of the vehicles will be AM General, LLC, with facilities located in Auburn Hills (Michigan) and Mishawaka (Indiana).
