The United States government has approved the sale of 26 HIMARS rocket launcher systems to Canada, in a deal valued at approximately $1.75 billion.
In addition to the launchers, the package includes various types of munitions, spare parts, communication equipment, technical support, and training, with the goal of strengthening Canada’s ability to conduct long-range precision strikes.

Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the HIMARS can fire rockets with a range of up to 80 km and tactical missiles capable of hitting targets more than 300 km away, giving Canada a significant deterrence and rapid-response capability. Integration will be carried out jointly with other US defense companies that will provide logistical and operational assistance.
According to the US State Department, the purchase strengthens cooperation between the two countries and contributes to NATO’s objectives, without altering the military balance in the region. The approval follows a recent decision that also allowed Australia to acquire units of the same system, amid growing demand for advanced military technologies among US allies.
