The US government recently approved an emergency sale of Caterpillar D9 tractors and related equipment to Israel, at an estimated cost of $295 million.
The Foreign Military Sale (FMS), which includes D9R and D9T models, spare parts, maintenance support, and logistical services, was authorized under an emergency determination by the Secretary of State, bypassing the usual congressional review process.
Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027. The State Department justified the decision by stating that “there is an emergency requiring the immediate sale of the above-mentioned defense articles and services to the Government of Israel in the interest of US national security.”
“The United States is committed to Israel’s security, and it is vital to US national interests to help Israel develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability,” said the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a statement.
