The White House spent over $120,000 to purchase two Ford Mustang GTs in order to strengthen the recruitment of new agents for ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
According to official documents, the acquisition was made without a bidding process due to the “urgent need” for eye-catching vehicles to help attract candidates at events and career fairs.
The measure is part of a package approved by Congress that allocates $30 billion for the hiring of approximately 14,000 new agents over the next two years. The government believes the sporty design and symbolic appeal of the Mustangs could help generate interest in the role, at a time when the agency faces low morale among employees and pressures regarding arrest targets under the Trump administration.
This is not the first time ICE has turned to vehicles for marketing purposes. Recently, the agency spent over $700,000 customizing SUVs and pickups, including a Ford Raptor and a GMC Yukon, painted in the same color scheme as Donald Trump’s private plane.
The investment in sporty and customized cars aims to give more visibility to recruitment campaigns and improve the agency’s image.
