The total cost of the sale is estimated at 30 million dollars, financed by the German government on behalf of Ukraine.

Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, emphasized the immediate need for this transfer, stating that “there is an emergency that requires the immediate sale of the necessary weapons to Ukraine.” This action aims to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and respond to Russian aggression, aligning with the U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives.

The systems, sourced from U.S. Army reserves, will be sent without the need to deploy additional U.S. government representatives or contractors to Ukraine. The implementation of the sale is part of broader cooperation with Germany, as stated by German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, during a visit to Washington.

The HIMARS allows for use as a multiple rocket launcher and can operate with high-precision ammunition at various ranges. The system is also capable of launching the short-range ballistic missile M57 ATACMS, which can hit targets up to 300 km away.

Recently, on May 10, M74 submunitions were found in the ATACMS warhead at a site in Rovenky, used by the occupiers as an oil depot. The approval of this sale underscores the continued support of the United States and its allies for the sovereignty and defense of Ukraine.
