The United States has approved the potential sale of “Air-to-Air” AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM missiles and related equipment to Finland in a deal valued at up to $1.07 billion.
The package includes up to 405 missiles, eight guidance sections, along with spare parts, software, training, and technical and logistical support.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the deal aims to strengthen Finland’s security as a NATO ally, enhancing its ability to address current and future threats while ensuring greater interoperability with U.S. forces and other allies. The agency also noted that the sale is not expected to alter the regional military balance.
The manufacturer, RTX Corporation, based in Virginia, will be the primary supplier. According to the DSCA, there will be no need to send U.S. military personnel to Finland, nor will it affect the U.S. defense readiness.
The final contract value will depend on the Finnish budget and the formalization of the purchase agreement.
