United Kingdom to Test Trident Nuclear Missile in the Atlantic Ocean

The HMS Vanguard, one of the four submarines carrying Trident nuclear missiles of the British Royal Navy, will soon conduct a test firing of an unarmed Trident D5 ballistic missile in the Atlantic Ocean.

The launch is scheduled to occur between January 30 and February 4 with the support of the United States Navy at the US East Coast Test Range, off the coast of Florida.

The unarmed missile, it is understood, has been converted into a test configuration using a kit produced by its manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, which includes the necessary tracking systems, flight telemetry instrumentation, and safety devices for the test.
