In response to a parliamentary inquiry, British Defence Minister Maria Eagle revealed that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) spent approximately $3.33 billion on armaments, ammunition, and armored vehicles in the fiscal year 2023-24.
Of this total, $2.41 billion was allocated to weapons and ammunition, while $708 million financed combat armored vehicles. In the previous year (2022-23), spending was slightly lower: $2.7 billion on armaments and $700 million on armored vehicles.
The minister emphasized that the MoD does not release budget forecasts during the year, as figures may be adjusted, and the data for 2024-25 will only be published after an audit.
The figures do not include equipment financed by special funds, such as the UK’s military support to Ukraine, which has already surpassed $3.84 billion in priority supplies. Additional costs, such as radar systems, testing, and integration of complex weapons, were also excluded.
Finally, Eagle noted that spending categories may overlap and that the term “weapons” covers various systems. The letter, made available in the House of Commons Library in March 2025, provides only a partial overview, as it excludes items such as armed aircraft and small arms.
