United Kingdom sends Puma HC.2 helicopters to strengthen Ukraine’s defense (X @RoyalAirForce)
The United Kingdom will transfer between 8 and 10 Puma HC.2 helicopters to Ukraine, following the recent decommissioning of these aircraft by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in March 2025.
These aircraft, previously used by the 33rd and 230th Squadrons in East Asia, played a key role in British operations since 1971. In 2007, they underwent a modernization program that included more powerful engines, avionics upgrades, and increased fuel capacity, a $339.1 million investment led by Airbus Helicopters.
The Puma HC.2 helicopters were officially retired and, following RAF tradition, carried out a farewell flight on March 26, 2025.
This transfer reinforces British military support for Ukraine, complementing the aid already received from Portugal at the end of 2024, when the country delivered eight operational SA-330 Puma helicopters.
These reinforcements are part of Western efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense. The helicopters, now in Ukraine’s possession, are known for their versatility and resilience, making them suitable for various military and humanitarian missions.
