The United Kingdom has announced a contract worth approximately $70.4 million to begin production of 37 artillery weapon systems for the new remote-operated RCH 155 howitzer, which will gradually replace AS90 systems in the British Army.

The agreement was signed by the “Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation” and предусматриes that ARTEC GmbH will manufacture the equipment for the platform based on the Boxer armored vehicle.

The contract includes the production of essential components of the artillery module, such as the barrel, recoil system, breech, and muzzle brake, as well as the mounting structures that integrate the weapon into the turret. The RCH 155 is part of the “Mobile Fires Platform” program, created to restore and modernize the Army’s long-range fire capability following the transfer of AS90 howitzers to Ukraine.

In addition to manufacturing the systems, the project предусматриes significant investment in Rheinmetall facilities in Telford, where the Gun Hall factory is located, dedicated to the production of large-caliber cannons. Approximately $39.9 million will be invested in expanding the site, with expectations of creating around 100 skilled jobs and strengthening the UK’s defense industrial base.

The RCH 155 combines the Boxer mobility module with a remotely operated artillery turret, capable of firing up to eight rounds per minute and hitting targets up to 70 kilometers away. With a crew reduced to two personnel and a top speed close to 100 km/h, the system is designed to enhance mobility and survivability on the battlefield while supporting the modernization of the United Kingdom’s land forces.
