The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that it will continue to support the global fleet of F-35 Lightning until at least 2069, when the aircraft will be retired from British service.

This support includes the manufacturing of key components by British companies, which represent about 15% of the total production value of the F-35. Additionally, over 100 suppliers in the UK are involved in the process, creating more than 20,000 jobs in the sector.

State Minister Maria Eagle stated that UK support for the F-35 program extends beyond the aircraft’s retirement in 2069 in the UK and may continue for other countries operating the model.

The UK plays a central role in F-35 production, with BAE Systems manufacturing essential components for the aircraft, and the company’s Samlesbury plant employing 1,800 people in the production of fighter sub-systems.

Eagle also reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to ensuring the continuity of jobs and expertise in the aerospace sector, allowing the British industry to continue benefiting from the F-35 program for several decades.
