The Ukrainian paratroopers have started operating Italian Centauro B1 armored vehicles, donated by Italy as part of its military assistance.
The 78th Air Assault Regiment released images of the equipment in action, visually confirming the arrival of the armored vehicles, which had been rumored since 2023. The exact number of units delivered has not been disclosed.
The images show that the Centauro B1s have been adapted to Ukrainian conditions, with cage armor and anti-tank grids that enhance the protection of the crew. The vehicle, which is wheeled and armed with a 105mm cannon and a machine gun, weighs 24 tons and has compact dimensions that allow for air transport. Its crew consists of four people: commander, gunner, loader, and driver.
In addition to the Centauro B1s, Italy plans to send a new military aid package to Ukraine, including 400 M113 armored vehicles, which have already been tested in combat and can transport troops with the possibility of additional weapon installations. The initiative strengthens military cooperation between the two countries and boosts the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian forces.
