Ukrainian naval drone intercepted by Russia after attack on Crimean bridge (X @ServiceSsu)
Naval drones of the Magura V7 type, armed with AIM-9M surface-to-air missiles, were spotted in the Kerch Strait shortly after a Ukrainian sabotage action against the Crimean bridge.
According to Russian sources, one of these drones was intercepted by a Lancet munition after being identified by a reconnaissance UAV, hit in the front and immobilized.
The presence of these drones suggests a joint operation between the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and Defense Intelligence, involving the naval unit “Group 13” in support tasks. The use of underwater drones is also considered a possibility, indicating a more sophisticated strategy than the use of conventional surface explosives.
The SSU reported that the sabotage was carefully planned for months, with the bridge pillars being mined with about 1,100 kg of explosives. The explosion caused structural deformations, although without major visible damage to the roadway.
The operation was reportedly based on technical documentation of the bridge obtained by Ukrainian Intelligence in June 2022.
