For the first time, Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets from the Ukrainian Air Force participated in the defense against a combined Russian attack involving missiles and drones.

These aircraft, received a month earlier as part of military aid from France, operated alongside F-16s and other Ukrainian forces. The first group of Ukrainian pilots and technicians completed their training on these fighters at the end of December, after six months of instruction.

In the early hours of March 7, 2025, Russia launched a coordinated attack on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, focusing mainly on gas production facilities. The attack involved 261 aerial devices, including 67 missiles of various types and 194 attack and simulation drones. The Ukrainian defense, composed of fighters, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare, and mobile teams, managed to intercept part of the offensive.

By 10 a.m., Ukraine confirmed the destruction of 134 targets, including 25 Kh-101/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 8 Kalibr missiles, and 100 Shahed drones. Additionally, at least ten Russian missiles failed before reaching their targets, and 86 decoy drones were deactivated without causing any damage.
