A Ukrainian AN-32P aircraft was sent to Montenegro to assist in fighting forest fires, in an operation funded by the United Arab Emirates.
The mission was agreed upon following negotiations between Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Initially, only two Black Hawk helicopters were planned for use, but the severity of the situation led to expanded support.
According to Spajić, all operation expenses, including fuel and payment for the Ukrainian crew, are being covered by the United Arab Emirates.
The aircraft’s participation is part of a joint effort to strengthen the country’s response capacity against fires.
The operation is conducted by the company XENA, founded in 2019 and a pioneer in the commercial use of the AN-32P model for aerial firefighting missions. Made up of experienced former military pilots, their teams have already performed notably in countries such as Turkey and Georgia, accumulating over 900 flights and releasing millions of liters of water in affected areas.
