Ukraine is expected to soon receive SkyShark attack drones from MGI Engineering, which were based on Formula 1 technology.
MGI Engineering was founded by former Formula 1 engineer Mike Gascoyne, who worked at McLaren and Lotus Racing. The company is now adapting Gascoyne’s motorsport expertise to build long-range kamikaze drones for precision strikes.
According to United24 Media, the British firm said the systems combine high technical performance with a relatively low price, offering an alternative to expensive missile systems.
The SkyShark, its first product, is expected to arrive in Ukraine within six weeks, the company said. “We are in a battle. It’s like a race to be the fastest and the best,” Gascoyne told BFBS/Forces News.
MGI said Ukrainian partners are already involved in production planning. The SkyShark is expected to cost about US$67,000, a figure significantly lower than many missile systems for similar missions.
The platform can carry a 10–20 kg warhead, reach speeds of up to 450 km/h, and operate at ranges of up to 250 km, using a homing system for navigation.
