The 141st Ukrainian Mechanized Brigade has received Croatian M-84 tanks, replacing part of its Soviet T-72 equipment.

Operating near the border between Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia, soldiers highlighted the advanced electronics and greater automation of the M-84s, which facilitate operations and target calculations through digital systems integrated with the SCS-84 sight, featuring both daytime and infrared channels. The crew also added reactive armor and anti-drone screens, preserving the Croatian identity of the tank.

The M-84 stands out from the T-72M by offering better mobility and maneuverability, thanks to the V46-TK diesel engine with 1,000 horsepower and improvements to the turret and weapon elevation.

However, the protection level was not altered during the modernization, maintaining armor equivalent to the T-72M1/T-72A. Most of the tanks arrived in good condition, already updated to the M-84A4 Sniper standard before 2023.

The supply is part of an agreement initiated last November, in which Croatia sent 30 M-84 tanks and 30 M-80 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. In return, the Croatian government received compensation from Germany, valued at approximately $169.4 million, for the purchase of 50 Leopard 2A8 tanks and associated equipment.
