The Ukrainian Army has significantly enhanced its firepower by putting into operation 120 self-propelled CAESAR howitzers, Western-made artillery equipment used in combat against Russian forces.
The model, developed by the French company KNDS, is known for its mobility and ability to make quick and precise shots across different types of terrain.
The success of the CAESAR on the battlefield has led to a new partnership between Leonardo DRS and KNDS, who signed a strategic cooperation agreement to offer the artillery system to the U.S. Army. Leonardo DRS, specializing in platform integration, will be the primary contractor, while KNDS will remain responsible for the production of the howitzers and ammunition.
According to KNDS, the CAESAR has already demonstrated high reliability and performance in combat, accumulating three years of operational experience in Ukraine. The company also revealed that about 90% of the howitzer barrels currently produced are destined for the Ukrainian forces, reinforcing the system’s role as one of the country’s key artillery assets.
