Ukrainian forces have announced the unprecedented destruction of Russian Gerbera drones carrying FPV drones, marking a new stage in the use of unmanned aircraft in the conflict.

The interceptions were carried out using P1-SUN drones, developed by the Ukrainian company SkyFall to counter aerial threats such as Shahed drones.

Images released by the company show the Gerbera drones carrying FPV drones attached to the top of their fuselage. According to SkyFall, five targets were shot down in a single day during operations conducted jointly with the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

Gerbera drones were mainly known for serving as low-cost decoys designed to wear down Ukrainian air defense systems. However, a new version identified in 2026 began functioning as a transport platform for FPV drones, allowing these systems to be launched closer to attack areas.

To counter this threat, Ukraine has been expanding the use of the P1-SUN, an interceptor capable of reaching speeds of up to 310 km/h and operating at high altitudes. Some variants are equipped with thermal sensors and automatic tracking systems, increasing precision against Russian aerial targets.
