Ukraine faced a new Russian aerial offensive, characterized by the massive use of Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and the launch of at least 18 ballistic missiles, according to information shared in a video by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the Ukrainian government, only the interceptor drones managed to destroy 64 Shahed UAVs in a single day, one of the highest numbers recorded since the start of the war. Still, some projectiles managed to bypass air defenses, causing damage to civilian infrastructure and energy sector facilities.
Zelenskyy stated that maintenance crews, electricity workers, and public services have been working continuously for weeks to restore the affected systems, especially during the winter period, when energy demand is even more critical.
Interceptor drones have established themselves as a low-cost, highly effective air defense solution, initially used against reconnaissance drones and later adapted to neutralize Shahed drones. At the same time, other systems are in operation, such as the mobile TEMPEST, which has reportedly shot down at least 21 drones of the same type.

We support the position on Iran: A regime that has lasted so many years and killed so many people does not deserve to exist. Changes are needed.
Changes are also needed in Europe—the bloodshed that Russia started and is the only one still prolonging must come to an end. pic.twitter.com/GHIjGj0jCM— Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський (@ZelenskyyUa) January 13, 2026
