Ukrainian troops stopped a Russian mechanized attack in the Petropavlivka area on the Kupiansk axis during an offensive that attempted to use the snowstorm to advance undetected.

The action was contained by soldiers from the 14th and 30th independent mechanized brigades, who managed to block the enemy’s advance even under adverse weather conditions.

According to Ukrainian soldiers, the Russian command relied on the snow to cover the troop movements. However, Ukrainian drones maintained active aerial surveillance and were crucial in locating and neutralizing assault groups moving in light and armored vehicles.

During the engagement, Ukrainian forces claim to have eliminated 17 Russian soldiers and wounded four others. Two MT-LB armored vehicles, 11 quad bikes, and two buggies used to transport assault teams were also destroyed, reducing the mobility of the offensive.

The fighting occurred near the village of Petropavlivka, located between the Hnilytsia and Oskil rivers, on a route leading directly to Kupiansk. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, 13 Russian assaults in this direction were repelled on February 8 alone. Military authorities also warn of sabotage groups in the city and report that clashes continue in the Vovchansk region on the Kharkiv axis.
