The vehicles have been assigned to the 3rd Mechanized Battalion, which is already conducting intensive training to master the use of the equipment, considered essential for increasing the unit’s mobility and firepower.
Images released by the brigade itself show driving exercises, live-fire drills, and target engagement during both daytime and nighttime operations. The vehicles come equipped with additional protective screens against shaped-charge munitions, enhancing survivability on the battlefield.
At the end of January, the 42nd Brigade was involved in the defense of the village of Novopavlivka, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to reports, enemy forces attempted a rapid advance using light vehicles but were detected by reconnaissance drones. After about two hours of fighting, the attack was repelled, with more than 40 enemy combatants killed.
Developed in the mid-2000s, the BTR-4 has been in service with Ukraine’s Defense Forces since 2014. Designed to transport up to eight troops with fire support, the model features a 30 mm automatic cannon, a grenade launcher, and a coaxial machine gun, as well as the capability to integrate anti-tank missiles. Despite the large-scale war, Ukraine continues domestic production of the armored vehicle.
