The Gepard systems, acquired by the United States from Jordan, have a modernized fire control system and an upgraded radar system. Originally, these anti-aircraft systems were delivered to the Dutch Armed Forces under contracts from 1977 and 1979, equipped with distinct radar units and smoke screen systems.

The Dutch systems are distinguished by a search radar antenna operating in the X-band with circular polarization, unlike the German systems that operate in the S-band with horizontal polarization. Additionally, the target acquisition antenna of the Dutch systems operates in the X/Ka bands and has a detection range of 13 km, compared to the 15 km of the German systems. Despite this, the Dutch Gepards can adjust frequencies at six points, while the Germans can only do so at two.

Currently, the Gepard systems are being used to hunt Russian attack UAVs and cruise missiles as part of the air defense forces of the Western Air Command. “We strive to achieve the highest efficiency in repelling air and missile attacks and destroying the maximum number of targets. Therefore, we continuously train the crews, collect, summarize, and disseminate best practices, and conduct training involving control targets,” said the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a statement.

In November 2023, the Militarnyi website reported that the United States had purchased 60 Gepard systems from the Dutch Armed Forces, which were previously sold to Jordan. The U.S. government paid $118 million for these anti-aircraft weapons, with funds allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program. According to the contract, the preparation work for the Gepard air defense systems was carried out in Jordan.
