The new MEDIGUARD armored ambulances — a result of cooperation between Germany and Ukraine — are now operating on the front lines to rescue wounded soldiers.
According to the German Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine’s Defense Forces already have four of these vehicles, designed to safely evacuate combatants from active combat zones.
The production of medical components and protective systems takes place in Germany, while final assembly is carried out in Ukraine, with direct funding from the German government. The embassy noted that the experience gained from earlier ambulance models was crucial in improving the design and efficiency of the new units.
German-Ukrainian cooperation advances
Diplomats emphasized that the partnership between Berlin and Kyiv in this field will continue in the coming months, with additional rescue vehicles planned for delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In addition to the MEDIGUARD ambulances, the German defense giant Rheinmetall announced in July the delivery of the fourth Role 2 mobile field hospital to Ukraine — a modular medical complex capable of operating close to the front lines.
The hospital consists of three trailer trucks, each equipped with two expandable container modules. Once deployed, they form a fully equipped medical center with triage, emergency, radiology, surgery, and intensive care units.
Training and rapid response
Ukrainian soldiers received training in Germany on how to operate and maintain the equipment, including quick-assembly procedures and field medical protocols.
According to Rheinmetall, these mobile hospitals are essential to ensure the rapid and professional treatment of wounded soldiers, significantly increasing survival rates on the battlefield.
