Ukraine will strengthen its air defense with eight SAMP/T NG systems, provided by France under a long-term bilateral agreement.

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, the equipment represents an updated and enhanced version of the system, making Ukraine the first country to operate this new generation still in its final development phase.

Each set includes six launchers, totaling 48 units, and is part of a ten-year military cooperation package. The agreement also includes the joint purchase and production of drones, interceptors, and guided bombs, as well as planned deliveries over the next two years and strategic projects for the coming decade. Kyiv states that the new SAMP/T configuration will be capable of countering ballistic missiles, although the transfer schedule has not yet been disclosed.

Currently used by the French Air Force and the Italian Army, the SAMP/T is responsible for medium-range air defense, with the capability to intercept drones, aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles. The system will be integrated with the new Aster 30 B1NT missiles, already successfully tested by France and Italy, capable of neutralizing ballistic and hypersonic targets up to 150 kilometers and 25,000 meters in altitude.
