Special Forces of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine carried out a precision strike against a Russian multifunctional vessel of the MPSV07 project, using a Ukrainian-made combat drone.
According to the GUR press office, the attack took place on 10 September 2025, while the enemy vessel was conducting electronic reconnaissance and patrol missions near Novorossiysk Bay, the base where the remnants of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are stationed. The GUR emphasised that, based on its commissioning year, the vessel is identified as the “Spasatel Demidov”, which entered service in 2015 and is valued at around $60 million. Russia has four vessels of this type in its fleet.

Designed for multiple purposes, the MPSV07 is equipped with diving systems, remotely operated underwater vehicles, side-scan sonar and advanced electronic reconnaissance (RER) sensors, enabling detailed examination of the seabed.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the attack destroyed the ship’s RER systems, rendering it inoperable and requiring costly repairs.
The episode represents yet another blow to Russia’s ability to conduct surveillance and special operations in the Black Sea, a strategic region of the conflict.
