Ukraine is studying the feasibility of using the PD-2 unmanned aircraft from Ukrspecsystems for the transport of donor organs.
In an interview with the site Militarnyi, Ukrspecsystems revealed that the Cardiac Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has already tested the PD-2 for such tasks.
To the outlet, the company noted that participating in this project is a natural and logical step for a company preparing for the future beyond the military field.
“The autonomous medical delivery market is growing rapidly. In 2023, the global estimate was around $245 million, with projections reaching $2 billion by the 2030s,” said Ukrspecsystems.
“Considering the progress of unmanned technologies since then and the experience of domestic companies, we can confidently claim a share of this market.”
The PD-2’s strong point is its ability to take off and land vertically, allowing it to operate in almost any location. Additionally, its flight range of 800 km is sufficient to reach the most remote areas of Ukraine.
During flights, the organ will be transported in a specially designed thermal box developed by specialists from the Cardiac Institute of Ukraine. According to Ukrspecsystems, the partnership aims to achieve practical results.
“We see this as preparation for the next stage of the company’s development. After the war, part of our production capacity could be redirected towards civilian tasks — medical logistics, humanitarian operations, and monitoring of critical infrastructure,” added the company.
