The new structure of the 414th Unmanned Systems Brigade strengthens maritime operations, interception of Shahed drones, and the advancement of Ukraine’s strategy with unmanned weapons

Ukraine has taken another step in expanding its unmanned warfare by creating a new naval drone division within the 414th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade. The unit will focus on maritime operations as well as special missions, including attacks against naval targets and the interception of Russian kamikaze drones Shahed.

The information was announced by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of the Security Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, the new division emerges at a time of expanding operational capabilities of the Unmanned Systems Forces, which are playing an increasingly important role in Kyiv’s military strategy.

The creation of the new formation became possible after the unit was expanded from regiment to brigade level. This change opened space for the development of new combat fronts within the so-called Medium Strike direction, integrating FPV drones, naval drones, ground robotic systems, and interceptors of enemy UAVs.

In practice, the move reinforces Ukraine’s investment in an increasingly flexible force, capable of operating across multiple environments and responding asymmetrically to Russian threats. In addition to striking vessels and targets in the maritime domain, the new division can also be used for specific defense tasks, such as neutralizing Shahed drones, which remain one of the most widely used weapons by Russia in saturation attacks.

Currently, naval drones are already employed by the Unmanned Systems Forces through the 412th NEMESIS Regiment. With the structural expansion to brigade level, Ukraine now has more room to organize specialized units and deepen the use of these systems in both offensive and defensive operations.
