Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade, subordinated to the 17th Army Corps, announced that it carried out the first confirmed interception of a Russian kamikaze drone Klin in the Orikhiv region.
The action was conducted using a Ukrainian interceptor drone, marking a new chapter in the technological warfare taking place in the airspace of the conflict.
According to Ukrainian military sources, the Klin is a Shahed-type system equipped with an artificial intelligence-based guidance system. The model features a canard aerodynamic configuration, with a forward horizontal stabilizer, and was reportedly introduced by Russian forces about four months ago.
The drone can operate autonomously, identifying and attacking targets up to 120 kilometers away with the aid of a repeater, in addition to functioning as a kind of “aerial minefield,” remaining on standby for up to 80 minutes. With a maximum takeoff weight of 13.5 kg, the Klin reaches speeds between 108 and 300 km/h, flies at altitudes of up to 2 kilometers, and carries a 5 kg warhead, with shaped-charge or high-explosive options, including an airburst detonation system.
Previously released images indicate that parts of the equipment, such as the optical module, were produced using 3D printing. In another recent episode, Ukrainian forces also reported the destruction of a Russian Shtorm reconnaissance drone, about which little public information is still available.
