On December 20, Ukraine and Portugal signed an agreement to establish a strategic partnership aimed at the joint production of unmanned naval drones.
The agreement was made official during the first visit of Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro to Kyiv, strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
Although the details were not disclosed, the initiative is expected to involve setting up part of the production of Ukrainian drones in Portugal, focusing on meeting the needs of both Ukrainian forces and the Portuguese Navy. The cooperation had been in preparation since September, when Ukraine conducted tests of unmanned naval vehicles in the European country.
The agreement with Portugal adds to other international partnerships established by Kyiv. In November, Ukraine and Greece also agreed to jointly produce these systems at Greek shipyards, involving defense companies from both countries and the local development of some of the technologies used.
