Ukraine activates French ‘drone wall’ to counter Shahed attacks and Russian bombs (X @front_ukrainian)
The Ukraine is set to deploy a new air defense system developed by the French company Atreyd in the coming weeks, known as the “drone wall“.
The technology, already delivered to the country, will be used for the first time in a war scenario and promises to create an “aerial minefield” to counter drones and Russian munitions.
The system works through dozens of FPV drones equipped with explosives, launched after threats are detected by radar. In the air, they form a barrier capable of exploding near Shahed drones and gliding bombs before they hit their targets. The defense structure is adjusted in real-time by artificial intelligence, and the equipment does not require GPS, operating with 3D maps — an advantage in the midst of intense electronic warfare. Additionally, a single operator can control up to 100 drones with basic training.
Tests conducted by the developer showed full effectiveness, and the expectation is that the system will become a permanent part of Ukraine’s defense. The country plans to expand its use in the future, including local production of the drones to reinforce other regions.
