The United States Army has signed a multi-year contract with Mistral and Israeli company Uvision to purchase Hero 120 attack drones, in a deal valued at approximately $982 million, according to an announcement made on October 3rd.
The agreement, whose exact number of units was not disclosed, was made under the Lethal Unmanned System program, which aims to quickly equip infantry combat brigades with loitering munitions to enhance firepower against short-range targets.
In addition to supplying the systems, the companies will be responsible for training the operators and providing support throughout the equipment’s lifecycle. The Hero 120 is estimated to have a range of up to 60 km, an endurance of about one hour, and carries a 4.5 kg warhead; it is transported in containers that also function as launchers. The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2026.
The purchase expands a recent history of U.S. acquisitions of loitering munitions of this type: in June, a small batch of the Hero-120SF variant was acquired for the Special Operations Forces, and the year before, the Army signed a nearly $990 million contract to purchase Switchblade 600 drones.
Data from previous contracts allow analysts to make estimates about order sizes, but the specific figures for this Hero 120 purchase remain undisclosed.
