The United States Army has officially announced the cancellation of the development program for the light tank M10 Booker, ending a project that consumed over US$ 1 billion.
The information was published by the portal “Defense News“, which highlighted the impact of the initiative’s end, considered the first attempt in four decades to introduce a new combat vehicle into the US arsenal.
The decision to terminate the program was communicated in a memorandum in early May and formalized on June 11. Despite the cancellation, the Army will continue to deliver some M10 units that are already in the final stages of production. The Army Secretary, Daniel Driscoll, stated that these tanks will still be accepted by the corps.
Designed to be a more agile option on the battlefield, the M10 Booker featured a 105 mm cannon, an 800-horsepower diesel engine, and weighed over 40 tons. The model represented an attempt to modernize ground forces with a light and versatile combat vehicle, but the project was discontinued before reaching large-scale production.
