The United States carried out another attack on a vessel traveling through the Pacific Ocean on Sunday (26). According to U.S. Southern Command, the operation left three people dead.

On social media, U.S. Southern Command stated that the vessel was navigating known drug trafficking routes and was involved in operations linked to narcotics trafficking.

The U.S. government says it is engaged in an active conflict against what it calls “narco-terrorists” in the region. Operations intensified in late 2025 and, so far, at least 40 boats have been targeted in strikes that have resulted in dozens of deaths.

Despite these claims, no evidence has been presented linking the targeted vessels to drug trafficking. Recently, a fishing boat from Ecuador that was hit in the Caribbean during one of these operations had survivors who were able to prove that no drugs were being transported on board.

In an interview with the newspaper Hora do Povo, Fernando Cedeño, a member of Ecuador’s legislature, said the episode highlights flaws in the Trump administration’s anti-drug policy, which, “under the pretext of fighting drugs,” continues to take the lives of innocent people.
